Dancing with Terre Baugeoise, Dudalnieki and Jo Evans

Rainbow were delighted to host an afternoon of dance and song on and around the Bandstand in Roberts Park.  Terre Baugeoise, a French folk and dance group from Bauge in the Anjou, joined us as part of their Easter tour.  They were in turn hosted by Dudalnieki, a local Latvian folk group.  Completing the line-up was Jo Evans, our very own local champion Lancashire clogger accompanied by musician Chas.

In front of an enthusiastic audience, we sang, danced and played together during an extremely friendly and enjoyable afternoon.

Afterwards we joined Terre Baugeoise and Dudalnieki at the Estonian Club in Bradford where we were invited to partake of a delicious buffet.  We enjoyed joining in Latvian dances and listening to some wonderful French and Latvian songs.

Upon our departure, Rainbow and Jo were presented with gifts by the French group – a lovely terracotta pot and cups for Rainbow and a terracotta candle stick holder for Jo, as well as a book about the group, written in French by one of its members.  She very kindly spoke to us about its contents – a little difficult as she didn’t speak English and we don’t speak French – but we got by!

All in all, an experience to remember.
